March 13, 1939 – January 18, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Lorne Edward Dubois, age 86, a resident of Thunder Bay, who passed away unexpectedly at TBRHSC on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Lorne was born on March 13, 1939, in Fort William. He grew up and went to school there, attending Selkirk High School. In 1956, he met Marlene Ruthven, the love of his life. They tied the knot on May 3, 1958. As they started their family together, they enjoyed camping trips with their five young kids and eventually found a seasonal spot at Pass Lake Campground that they cherished until this past summer.

Lorne worked for Jessiman Motors which later became Tilden Rent a Car. He eventually became an owner and partner alongside Marlene. They were fortunate to retire in 1986 after many wonderful years working as a team. After retirement, they discovered their favorite winter getaway in Harlingen, Texas where they spent every winter for the next 28 years making great friends and unforgettable memories.

Lorne leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Marlene; five children: Debbie (Dave), Don (Brenda), Shelley (Al), Sherry (Jim), and Lorna (Randy); along with eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and recently welcomed two great-great twin grandchildren. He is also survived by two siblings: Marilyn Smilski and Brian Dubois; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and four siblings.

Family meant everything to him. When his grandchildren came around, nothing could wipe the smile off his face.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of 2B and the ICU at the Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness during this time.

Cremation has taken place according to Lorne’s wishes. There will be no service held. Internment will occur at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

If you would like to make a donation in Lorne’s memory, contributions can be made to the TBRHSC-ICU Department which would be greatly appreciated.

Online condolences can be shared at www. nwfainc. com
