On January 18th, 2026, at the age of 81, Jesus called John Kloosterhuis to his eternal home.
John was born in Middelstum, Netherlands and moved to Canada with his family when he was young. He later made a loving home in Slate River Valley with his beloved wife, Jean. Together they enjoyed 56 wonderful years and raised their four children.
John cherished spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids while sharing his faith in Christ. He loved reading the Bible and set an example for his family by leading them in prayer and worship as a dedicated member of the United Reformed Church.
In addition to his faith, John had many interests including gardening, landscaping, woodworking, working in his garage, and camping during summer trips with family. After retiring, he also enjoyed supporting Christian education by volunteering at the Twice As Nice thrift store.
He leaves behind his wife Jean (nee Miedema), sons Robert (Janice), Darrell (Kristen) and daughters Sandra Bolt (husband Martin) and Brenda Janssens (husband Murray). His grandchildren Sabrina, Kaitlyn, Sam, Bree, Ava and Rachel will miss him dearly. John is also survived by his brother Henry (wife Sylvia) and in-laws Lucy Kloosterhuis (husband Fred✝), Ben & Anne Breukelman, John & Aly Miedema, and Ed & Bethany Miedema.
John was predeceased by his parents Jan & Johanna Kloosterhuis, in-laws Jack & Betty Miedema, brother Fred as well as his first grandchild Julianne Bolt.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 22nd from 7-9pm at the United Reformed Church on Hwy 130. The funeral service will take place on Friday, January 23rd at the United Reformed Church at 11am. The service will also be streamed live from the URC website (thunderbayurc. com).
