We are saddened to share the news of John Drew’s passing on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Born in Port Arthur on September 2, 1948, John attended Pine Street School and PACI. He later studied at Lakehead University, where he received his degrees in Business Administration (1970) and Honours Bachelor of Commerce (1972). An exceptional student, John proudly earned the Dean Braun’s Highest Ranking Graduate Student award for both of his degrees.

John enjoyed a long and successful career with the federal government, retiring in 2007 after 35 years. Early on, he worked with the Auditor General and took part in a United Nations audit in New York City before moving to the Revenue Canada Thunder Bay Office for the rest of his career.

A devoted family man, John loved spending time with his family at camp. He is fondly remembered by his son Clinton Drew (Caitlan); his grandchildren Abigail, Lillian, Isabelle, and Zachary; his sister Beverley Drew (Barry Beaupre); his nephew Myles Beaupre (Lauren) and niece Nicole Beaupre (Jamie Polhill); his great-nieces and nephew Emmy, Ruby, and Owen Beaupre; as well as his Aunt and Uncle Jim and Betty Whatley along with many cousins.

John was predeceased by his parents Walter and Emmy Drew; Aunts and Uncles Edward (Genny) Whatley, Gordon (Audrey) Whatley, Ivy (Axel) Nielsen, Richard (Kay) Whately, Kay (Jack) Masters, Joe (Elaine) Whately, Donald (Nancy) Drew, William (Violet) Drew and Kathleen (William) Parry.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and friends at Chartwell Hilldale as well as those at St. Joseph’s Hospital and The Regional Cancer Centre for their compassion and care.

A Memorial Reception will take place at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel located at 21 N. Court Street on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
