The family is heartbroken to share the news of Helen Joan Hansen’s passing at the age of 87 on May 26, 2026, at Pinewood Court in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Born on June 28, 1938, in South Gillies, Helen spent many happy years at her home on Cartier Court where she created a life filled with love, family, and laughter.
Helen’s family was her greatest source of happiness. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose home was always welcoming. Her great-grandchildren affectionately called her “G-dot” and “Big Grammy,” and she cherished every moment with her expanding family. She loved camping at Round Lake, enjoyed dancing whenever there was music around, and could often be found with her favorite drink-rum and diet Pepsi. Helen had a playful spirit and was known for pinching those she cared about-a fun quirk that will bring smiles to her family’s faces forever.
She is survived by her beloved children: Greg (Loreen), Jim (Sheila), Jeff (Kerry), and Cindy (John). Her grandchildren will miss her dearly: Andy (Ashley), Eric (Riley), Stephanie (Aaron), Ashley (Jeff), Tyler, John (Julie), Joel (Pippa), Krista (Shaun), Katie (Ray), Justin, Erin (Brett), and Tara.
As a proud great-grandmother, she leaves behind Makinley, Brody, Adam, Lochlan, Nathan, Alayna, Makyla, Kailee, Sawyer, Carly-Anne, Evalyn, Lainey, James, Danyka, Henry, Halle, Hazel,, Zoe,, and Quinton.
Her sisters Irene and Betty (Fred); sisters-in-law June,, Merle,, Edith (Wayne), Margie,, and Roberta; along with numerous nieces,, nephews,, extended family members,,, and dear friends also survive her.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Gilbert Hansen; great-granddaughter Taylor Dawne; parents John and Sadie Lane; brothers Vern (Eleanor), Earl (Mary), Glen; sisters Hazel (Fred) Sutton,, Peggy (Bob) Wark,, Vera (Lawrence) Hansen; baby sister Faye;, as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
A funeral service will take place at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday June 3rd., 2026,, at 11:00 a. m. Interment will occur later.
In place of flowers,,, memorial donations in honor of Helen can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
The family wants to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Blue Heron at Southbridge Pinewood Long Term Care for their kindness,,, compassion,,, and care shown to Helen during her time there.
