Mr. Edward Macura, aged 98, a resident of Hogarth Riverview Manor, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born on September 26, 1927, in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ed was the son of Anne and John Macura. In his youth, he moved to Toronto to pursue a career as a hairdresser but returned to his hometown in 1980. He enjoyed riding his purple ten-speed bike around town with a camera bag over his shoulder. His photo albums were filled with pictures of lakers on the Kam River, his great-niece in the garden, and his great-nephew at the hockey rink. A gifted artist, he filled wallet-sized sketchbooks with pen drawings of nature, people on buses, and anything else that caught his eye.
Ed was a devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.
He was well-known in the neighborhood for expressing himself rather colorfully about snow and occasionally about the neighbor’s dogs.
Uncle Ed will be missed by his nieces Karen (Stephen) Ford and Paula Watkinson; great-nephews Joseph (Keltie) Ford, James Watkinson, Spencer Watkinson; great-niece Kaitlyn (Krishna) Tangilapalli; and great-greats Nash, Isla, and Aari.
He is predeceased by his parents and his dear sister Valentina.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Birch Grove in Hogarth Riverview Manor for their care and compassion.
In keeping with Ed’s wishes, there will be no service held. Instead of flowers, donations to St Joseph’s Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
