Gomer Dwayne Seeley, or simply Dwayne, passed away quietly on June 12, 2025, at The Homestead in Rexburg, Idaho. He was 97 years old.
He was born on August 30, 1927, in Hayden, Utah, to Joseph Hyrum Seeley and Blodwen Williams. As the fifth of ten children, he grew up in Chester, Idaho. His siblings included Mont, Beth, Elmo, Max, Wilma, Zella, Lynn, Lloyd, and a twin brother who sadly did not survive infancy. After finishing high school at South Fremont High School, Dwayne served in the Military Government Reserve during World War II.
On March 13, 1952, he married Marie Blanchard in the Idaho Falls Temple after returning from his mission to the Western Canadian Mission. They settled down in Rexburg and raised three daughters: Kera, Brenda, and Connie. Their son Craig passed away when he was just an infant.
Dwayne started his career in banking in St. Anthony before becoming a traveling auditor for First Security Bank across southeastern Idaho and Wyoming. He also completed his studies with the National Association for Bank Auditors in Wisconsin.
Instead of taking up golf during his travels like many might do, he embraced quilting-a hobby that evolved into a true passion. He crafted hundreds of jean quilts which he donated to charitable causes and gave as gifts to family and friends.
Known for his quick humor and love of building fires as well as tinkering with various projects around the house; his devotion to his family shone through especially towards his 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In jest once he said, “The only reason I had kids was so I could have grandkids.”
A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , Dwayne served alongside Marie on a couple’s mission in Winnipeg Canada along with other humanitarian efforts. They also took part as temple workers in Rexburg.
Dwayne is preceded by his wife Marie (who passed away in 2021), their infant son Craig , his parents , and all of his siblings. He leaves behind daughters Kera , Brenda , and Connie ; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren ; and a legacy marked by quiet strength , service , and love.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at The Homestead as well as Homestead Hospice for their kindness during his final days.
If you own one of Dwayne Seeley’s original quilts , please bring it along to display on your pew during the service.
