Handed away peacefully, surrounded by household, at Troopers’ Memorial Hospital, Orillia on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in his 94th yr. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Chapman). Loving father of Michael (Melanie Starr), Julie Brown (Doug), Karen Received (Michael), and Kevin (Anita Montgomery). Proud grandfather of Kendall, Devon, Matthew, Caroline (Jon), Austin (Marie-Ange), Emily (Matt), Natalie, Sarah, Peter, and Nathaniel. Expensive brother of Ralph (Ann) each predeceased, Neil (predeceased) (Norma), John (Margaret, predeceased), Tom (predeceased) (Jean), Sue Johnston (John, predeceased), and Linda Kidney (Paul). Doug will probably be missed by his companion over the previous 22-years, Heidi Hutson.

Doug was a famend industrial artist, illustrator, and cartoonist. He was born in Guelph Ontario, one in all seven siblings. From humble beginnings, as a teen, Doug sketched silhouettes on the Canadian Nationwide Exhibition. After highschool, Doug was employed as a industrial and portrait artist in Montreal and Toronto. 

In 1957, Doug married his spouse of 44 years, Shirley, who was his life and enterprise accomplice. Doug fell in love with Shirley at first sight and was devastated by her passing in 2001. With Shirley’s encouragement, Doug went freelance in Toronto in 1957, illustrating for main Canadian textbook and journal publishers. For 12-years, the Ontario Chronicle, Canada’s largest newspaper, commissioned Doug to color their vacation playing cards.

Doug grew to become a cartoonist for Playboy journal in 1964 and was the longest contributor with over 400 full-page color cartoons. Additionally within the mid Nineteen Sixties, Doug grew to become a every day political cartoonist, first with “Doug Sneyd” within the Ontario Chronicle and later with “Scoops” that he syndicated in over 150 North American papers. These options ran for practically 20-years. Doug adopted up with a heartwarming characteristic, “Wee Whimsy.”

In 1969, Doug and Shirley moved their household north to a waterfront house they commissioned in Orillia, Ontario. Doug liked this architectural masterpiece and lived/labored there for the rest of his life. Doug, Shirley, their 4 youngsters, and 4 canine adored the Orillia group and panorama. An early well being fanatic, Doug promoted household participation in crusing, ice boating, swimming, snowboarding, operating, morning exercises, wholesome consuming, gourmand cooking, and Algonquin Park canoe journeys. Shirley and Doug loved many lifelong friendships, together with Vic Bustard, Bob Donnell, Hugh Revell, and the Orillia “Old Men Walking” group. 

Doug’s creativity was multifaceted. An inventor, Doug tinkered with highway reflectors, rafts, sailboats, underground buildings, industrial illustrations, Belt-Buddy, and patented Solarsphere. In 1993, Doug wrote, produced, and directed “Black-eyed Susan”, an academic film about spousal abuse for the Ontario authorities. Even in his remaining weeks, Doug was engaged on a play and invention enhancements.

Doug was a founding member of the Canadian Society of Ebook Illustrators and was a member of the Nationwide Cartoonists’ Society and the Affiliation of American Editorial Cartoonists. The Nationwide Archives of Canada in Ottawa comprises 235 of Doug’s works.

Doug’s household thanks the well being care professionals who supplied exemplary care: Dr. Dharssi, Troopers Emergency Division, Troopers One, the Respiratory Remedy Division, Allied Well being, and his Private Assist Staff.
