April 27, 1940 – January 6, 2026
We are heartbroken to share the news of Mr. G Barry Roberts from Thunder Bay, ON who passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on January 6, 2026, at the age of 85.
Barry was born on April 27, 1940, in Lemberg, Saskatchewan. In 1942, he and his family moved to Fort William, ON where he grew up and finished his education at Selkirk high school. He worked for several companies like Bearing Supply and Detco before co-founding RPM Drives and Design where he continued until retirement.
He loved camping and traveling with his family across Western Canada and the Midwestern US. Riding his motorcycle brought him joy, as did auto racing; he frequently attended events at tracks such as Riverview, Superior, Hibbing, Proctor, and Cedar Lake. His travels also took him to Knoxville in Iowa and Eldora Speedway in Ohio. Music was another passion for him; he enjoyed singing and playing guitar during family gatherings. Golfing was a favorite pastime too-he played regularly and became skilled at assembling and customizing his own clubs. You could often find Barry on the Northern Lights Course bright and early before 7:00 am during summer months.
Barry leaves behind his wife Sharon; sons Dale (Kim) and Brian; daughter Cheryl (Robin); grandson Cameron; grand-dog Diva; sister June Wall; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father G Harry Roberts; mother Mary “Pat” Roberts (Aldous); brother Victor; sister Lynda; and companion Judy Fairbarn.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the nurses on 3B for their compassionate care towards Barry. A special thank you goes out to neighbor David Joseph for being a tremendous support for Dad over these past years.
In the words of Don Williams: “Lord, I hope this Day Is Good. We hope your everyday is good now with birdies on every hole and sunshine every day.”
