Two Men Charged in Halton Human Trafficking Case

Two Men Charged in Halton Human Trafficking Case

Gebre Byrnes, left, and Rayon Powell have been charged by Halton Police.

Authorities report that coercion, manipulation, physical violence, and psychological harm were used to control multiple women who were trafficked for sex in the Halton Region.

Police state that two men are now facing a number of charges related to these offenses.

In July of last year, Halton police began their investigation, which revealed financial transactions linked to the trafficking operation. They claim the leaders employed various methods to exert control and influence over the victims while profiting from their exploitation.

On March 20, police executed search warrants at two homes in Oakville, discovering cocaine, cash, a stolen motorcycle, electronic devices, and identity documents belonging to victims.

This led to the arrest of the following individuals who have been charged and are awaiting bail:

Rayon Powell (38) of Oakville, also known as ‘Dante,’ ‘Michael Williams’ and ‘Kash’:

Material benefits from trafficking in persons (two counts)
Material benefits from sexual services (three counts)
Procuring (six counts)
Advertise sexual services (three counts)
Breach of probation (three counts)
Sexual assault
Voyeurism
Assault
Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Gebre Byrnes (46) of Oakville, also known as ‘G’ and ‘Jason Peters’:

Trafficking in persons
Material benefits from trafficking in persons
Material benefits from sexual services (two counts)
Procuring (three counts)
Possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts)
