A child has died in a crash on the QEW in Oakville overnight.

Emergency crews responded to the single-vehicle rollover in the westbound lanes of the QEW near Bronte Road early Monday, OPP said in a post on X around 1:30 a.m.

Police later said that, just after midnight, a pickup truck was approaching Burloak Drive when it entered the ditch. The vehicle rolled before coming to rest upright.

Three people were in the truck.

A nine-year-old boy was transported to hospital without vital signs and was later pronounced dead, OPP said. The boy was ejected from the vehicle, police said later.

The 38-year-old driver from Hamilton was transported to hospital and remains there with serious injuries, police said. Another 28-year-old passenger was not injured and remained at the scene, police said.

The potential lack of seatbelt use is being investigated as a contributing factor in the collision, police said.

There is no word yet on the cause of the crash.

The highway was closed for six hours for the investigation but has since reopened.

Police ask witnesses to call 905-681-2511.

Update: WB #QEW/Bronte – all lanes reopened.
