Unifor members to construct Ford F-Collection Tremendous Obligation vehicles at Oakville plant

OAKVILLE—Unifor welcomes as we speak’s announcement that Ford Motor Firm will start manufacturing of F-Collection Tremendous Obligation vehicles on the Oakville Meeting Complicated in summer time 2026 in addition to each typical and electrified variations of the Tremendous Obligation later this decade.

“This new retooling plan for the Oakville plant addresses our union’s concerns with Ford Motor Company’s decision to delay new vehicle production for a period that was too long, too disruptive, and too harmful to accept,” stated Unifor Nationwide President Lana Payne. “Working with our local unions and company executives, we came to an agreement that will not only see our members back to work sooner, it protects our members’ jobs well into the future.”

Manufacturing of the present technology Tremendous Obligation is forecasted to start in 2026. In April 2024 the Firm introduced its choice to delay the launch of BEV manufacturing from 2025 to 2027. The delay would have resulted in Unifor Native 707 members being laid off for greater than three years.

Because the delay was introduced in April 2024, Unifor has been engaged in negotiations with the corporate to push for added help mechanisms for employees and an accelerated resumption of manufacturing at Oakville.

“Finding a solution to support our members was multi-layered and extensive,” stated Native 707 Oakville Plant Chairperson Marc Brennan. “This shift in direction reaffirms Ford Motor Company’s commitment to our members.”

Along with the accelerated timeline for the launch of Oakville’s subsequent product, the union additionally succeeded in extending and enhancing the earnings safety transition provisions initially negotiated throughout 2023 bargaining.

Ford’s new product commitments will end in an extra funding of $500 million on prime of the $1.8 billion Ford Motor Firm dedicated in 2020. Because of the manufacturing volumes of Tremendous Obligation vehicles in Oakville, Ford anticipates growing engine manufacturing volumes on the Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario which employs Unifor Native 200 members.
