OAKVILLE, ONT. – Infrastructure Ontario, along with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation, and Parks (MECP) and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), have released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for teams to design, construct, finance, and maintain a new science facility complex in Oakville, Ont.
This new complex will replace the MECP facility located at 125 Resources Rd. and the MLITSD’s temporary site at 6295 Northam Dr. (previously at 81A Resources Road).
The new government-owned facility aims to consolidate the ministries’ existing operations into one “single, modern science and laboratory facility that will strengthen Ontario’s capacity to deliver on critical mandates of protecting the environment, public health, and safety,” as stated in a release.
The design will offer flexibility with adaptable laboratories, science workshop areas, and offices to accommodate both current activities and future expansion. It will also promote efficiencies by streamlining workflows, sharing specialized equipment, and enhancing emergency preparedness.
The project is set to achieve LEED Silver certification.
This RFQ marks the initial step in selecting a team. Submissions will be evaluated to shortlist teams with the necessary design and construction experience along with financial capability to handle a project of this scale and complexity.
Shortlisted teams will then be invited to submit responses to a Request for Proposal expected in spring 2026.
