Ottawa Officer Faces Assault Charges After Collision

Authorities in Halton Region have charged an officer from Ottawa following an event that occurred in Oakville, Ont., last week.

According to police, just before 10:30 p. m. on June 12, a disagreement related to a crash involving two vehicles resulted in assault charges against Staff Sgt. Walt Lushman, who was off-duty at the time.

Lushman has been released under specific conditions.

Officials from the Ottawa police state that the Professional Standards Unit has initiated an investigation into this incident, but no further details were provided as it is currently a legal matter.

Authorities confirmed that Lushman will not perform any public-facing duties while the investigation is ongoing.
