In 2025, Oakville finished over 3,500 new housing units as the town strives to meet a provincial goal of 33,000 homes by 2031.

The town council received Oakville’s State of Housing Report on Sept. 8, which detailed housing construction, development approvals, and rental supply. The report also highlighted that housing affordability continues to be an issue.

In total, 3,543 new housing units were completed in Oakville during 2025. Additionally, construction began on another 2,104 units, while there were still 1,994 units under construction at the year’s end.

Oakville also has a significant number of potential housing developments in the pipeline. By the close of 2025, there were 45,443 units under review, with draft approval for 3,560 and full approval granted for 13,831.

The town noted that these figures illustrate its involvement in planning and development approvals. The timing for construction will rely on market conditions and decisions made by property owners and developers.

The rental housing supply has also expanded. Between 2022 and 2025, approximately 620 private rental apartment units were added, bringing Oakville’s total private rental inventory to 5,540 units as of December 2025.

The report identifies seven assisted and supportive housing projects led by Halton Region. These projects consist of a total of 242 units; among them are 161 that have already been completed.

In December 2024, Oakville adopted a Housing Strategy and Action Plan aimed at increasing the variety of housing options available within the community.

Council received a Housing Needs Assessment in August 2025 that looked into housing requirements and affordability issues. In April and May of 2026, council approved updated Official Plan policies regarding housing which could allow for inclusionary zoning in the future.

Halton Regional Council also reviewed updated growth and housing reports in June of 2026 that explored how housing growth relates to regional infrastructure and assisted living options.

The town’s Housing Data Hub offers information about current housing activities, development trends, and progress toward meeting the target for new homes by 2031.

For more information visit Oakville’s Housing Data Hub-a central resource for data on housing activities as well as trends related to development efforts aligned with the Town’s provincial goals.
