EDMONTON — A business meals processing firm is going through 26 charges after an Edmonton employee grew to become trapped in a smokehouse and died. Ontario-based Sofina Meals Inc. is charged with offences below Alberta well being and security legal guidelines.

EDMONTON — A business meals processing firm is going through 26 charges after an Edmonton employee grew to become trapped in a smokehouse and died.

Ontario-based Sofina Meals Inc. is charged with offences below Alberta well being and security legal guidelines.

The province says the power supervisor had gone to examine the temperature of the smokehouse in March 2023 and was trapped inside.

The worker was discovered by a co-worker and later died as a result of warmth publicity.

It is alleged the corporate failed to make sure the smokehouse was effectively maintained and never a threat for employees.

Sofina Meals says in a press release it has co-operated absolutely with the provincial investigation and referred to as the loss of life a “deeply saddening accident.”

“Our individuals are the center of our enterprise, and our plant superintendent, Samir, was an necessary a part of our Sofina household,” stated the assertion Monday.

“His passing profoundly affected his household, our group, and our group. We proceed to be involved for them and their well-being.”

Smokehouses are used to course of and protect meat.
