The Hamilton Police Service has announced that Alan Haaksma, 52, from Oakville is facing 16 counts of robbery with a weapon, seven counts for disguising his identity, and two counts related to possessing stolen money under $5,000. (Photo: HPS)

Police report that the knifepoint robberies targeting various banks across Ontario were all carried out by the same individual. This led to more than two dozen charges against a suspect who was arrested earlier this week.

The series of armed robberies took place between February 8 and February 25 in Hamilton, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Guelph, Halton, and Niagara regions, according to Hamilton Police.

In each of the 16 incidents-14 of which occurred at banks-the police say a man wielding a knife demanded cash from bank staff. In some cases, he wore a mask during these robberies.

This crime wave prompted collaboration among multiple police agencies in an extensive investigation that ultimately identified the suspect. An arrest was made on Wednesday.

Alan Haaksma, 52 years old from Oakville, now faces charges including 16 counts of robbery with a weapon, seven counts of disguise with intent and two counts related to possession of proceeds from crime under $5,000.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they can reach out to the police at 905-546-8934. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www. ontariocrimestoppers. ca.
