A worker has been taken into custody after authorities reported that specialized equipment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars was stolen from an aerospace firm in Oakville.
On Thursday, Halton Regional Police announced they started looking into the matter in early June when the company alerted them about the theft of specific millwright and aerospace tools and equipment.
During their investigation, officers identified the suspect as a staff member of the company who allegedly advertised the stolen items for sale on social media.
On June 30, police carried out a search warrant at a residence in Brantford and arrested the individual. They recovered $250,000 worth of equipment along with $150,000 in Canadian cash during this operation. Authorities also seized several high-value designer watches and sunglasses.
Halton seizure Police also seized $150,000 in cash along with numerous pairs of high-end sunglasses and watches.
Abhishek Kumar Patel, 30, from Brantford, faces multiple charges including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for resale purposes.
These charges have not yet been proven in court.
Authorities state that the investigation is still active and anyone with details is encouraged to reach out to law enforcement.
