Two teenagers were taken into custody after “disorder” broke out on Canada Day, where fireworks were fired off in a dangerous manner in an Ontario city.

Halton Regional Police report that the incident occurred on July 1, when around 30,000 people had come together for Canada Day celebrations in the Bronte area of Oakville.

This is when police say several fireworks were “dangerously and unlawfully” set off by youths in the crowd during the family-friendly event.

Officers attempted to disperse the group and clear them from downtown, but faced “defiance from some of the youth, resulting in some additional localized disorder.”

No one was injured and no property was damaged; however, a 16-year-old was arrested and charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with weapons dangerous (bear spray), while a 15-year-old youth was apprehended for causing a disturbance.

Both teens have been charged under municipal by-law for discharging fireworks, according to police.

The names of those accused haven’t been released due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are currently reviewing video footage of the event “to identify others responsible for acts of public disorder.”

If you have any information about this incident, you can contact Halton police by emailing [email protected]. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by visiting www. ontariocrimestoppers. ca.

When you reach out to Crime Stoppers, your identity remains anonymous; you won’t need to testify and could earn a $2,000 reward.
