OPP disrupts international cryptocurrency scams, identifies 1000’s of victims worldwide

OTTAWA — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Cyber-Enabled Fraud Workforce (CEFT) and its companions, via Challenge Atlas, have prevented greater than $70 million in cryptocurrency from being stolen by cybercriminals and frozen over $24 million in fraudulent losses. Working with regulation enforcement companions across the globe, investigators have recognized over 2,000 cryptocurrency pockets addresses linked to fraud victims throughout 14 nations, together with Canada, the USA, Australia, Germany, and the UK.

Challenge Atlas was a victim-centred initiative targeted on disrupting organized cryptocurrency fraud schemes and elevating public consciousness about cryptocurrency funding scams. The OPP thanks its companions for his or her important assist, together with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), Nationwide Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (NC3), United States Secret Service (USSS), Ottawa Police Service (OPS), Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and private-sector collaborators similar to Chainalysis, Ndax, Shakepay and Coinbase.
