Halton regional police report that an eight-year-old girl has died after being hit by a vehicle while with her mother on Thursday afternoon in Oakville, Ont.

The incident took place on North Service Road West, near Lindsay Drive, at about 3:50 p. m.

According to police, a Lexus SUV “left the roadway” and struck the young girl along with her 39-year-old mother.

Both were taken to a local hospital before being moved to a trauma center for further treatment, police stated.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, the child died of her injuries,” police mentioned.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.
