A 78-year-old woman from North York has tragically lost her life after a three-vehicle collision in Mississauga on Saturday night.

The Ontario Provincial Police reported that the accident took place in the eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401, close to Mississauga Road, just after 8 p. m.

She was among two women transported to the hospital, where she was declared dead. The driver of her vehicle sustained minor injuries.

This section of the highway remained closed for nearly eight hours as investigators worked at the scene, reopening around 4 a. m. on Sunday.
