A boy was tragically hit by a westbound GO train in Mississauga on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The boy was thought to be around 12 or 13 years old, as stated by Const. Tyler Bell-Morena, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police.
“This is an absolutely horrible situation for the family involved,” Bell-Morena told reporters near the scene.
Police arrived at the crossing near Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street before 3 p. m. after receiving reports of a collision involving a train, Bell-Morena said.
According to Bell-Morena, evidence indicates that the boy went around the barrier before being struck by the train. He mentioned that another child was with him at that time.
Authorities believe the boys were riding some type of motorized bicycle and were not accompanied by an adult.

Bell-Morena expressed condolences to the family and noted that their thoughts are also with the train conductor.
The traffic signals appeared to be functioning properly along with train arms, flashing lights, and an audible tone, Bell-Morena said.
“I certainly don’t want to pass on any blame towards the young man here. When I was his age, I was out on a dirt bike myself. And you should be able to go out and have fun,” he said.
“But this is a time, unfortunately, to remind our kids that when they’re on these bikes, to really mind the crossings, particularly at railway passings here.”
Police will investigate the boy’s death while Metrolinx looks into what happened with the train collision, he stated. There was a significant police presence in the area following this tragic event.

“Delays or changes might still happen as we get back into regular service,” Metrolinx added.<پ
While police closed roads in connection with their investigation, all roads were reopened later that night.
