October 27, 2025 (Toronto, ON) – A recent poll by Liaison Strategies for the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) shows that mayor Frank Scarpitti has a 71% approval rating, making his net approval the highest among ten mayors surveyed in Ontario.

Conducted from October 22-23, 2025, with interactive voice response technology, the poll gathered responses from 800 voters in Markham. The margin of error is +/- 3.46%, 19 times out of 20.

Liaison Strategies is known for its accuracy in polling across Canada. It was ranked #1 in accuracy during the 2025 Ontario election and #2 nationally in the federal election that year. Liaison is part of the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC).

David Valentin, Principal at Liaison Strategies, shared this insight:

If an election were held today it would be smooth sailing for Markham mayor Frank Scarpitti. Matched against his opponent from 2022, Don Hamilton, Scarpitti would receive 68% of the vote compared to Hamilton’s 29%. With municipal elections just under a year away, things are looking good for him.

Alongside strong results in mayoral matchups, Scarpitti holds a solid approval rating of 71%, with only 19% of Markham residents disapproving of his performance as mayor. This marks the highest net approval among all ten big city mayors tested in Ontario.

Residents of Markham have concerns similar to those throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Crime tops their list at 29%, followed closely by affordable housing at 21%. Traffic issues rank highest for only 15% – with Vaughan residents citing traffic as their top issue at a higher rate (20%).

Meanwhile, Conservative support stands at 50% in Markham, leading the Liberals by nine points. This could help Conservatives maintain their hold on Markham-Unionville and may pose challenges for Liberals in two other seats if trends continue. It’s crucial to note that this survey gauged general party support rather than local candidate names.
