Indy Car events resume in Markham after Friday cancellation
Indy Car drivers practiced and qualified on a new circuit in Markham Saturday, after Friday’s sessions were cancelled due to track readiness issues. The main event is scheduled for Sunday. CBC’s Tyler Cheese provides the details.
David Malukas recorded the fastest practice lap at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham.
Malukas clocked a time of one minute 14.194 seconds during the second training session of the day. Qualifying will happen later this evening.
Alex Palou achieved the second-best time at 1:14.560 while Dennis Hauger came in third with a lap time of 1:14.592 around the downtown road course in Markham.
The first day of track sessions was canceled because safety inspections had not been completed, and parts of the course were unfinished.
This marks Markham’s debut as host for this race after it relocated from Toronto’s Exhibition Place, where it took place since its inaugural event in 1986.
Palou had recorded the fastest time earlier in the morning’s first practice session, finishing with a lap time of 1:14.9915.
