A busy intersection in Markham has reopened after a driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, crashing into multiple poles.
York Regional Police (YRP) received a call about the incident at Markham Road and Bullock Drive, just north of Highway 7, around 1:30 a. m. on Wednesday.
According to police speaking to 680 News Radio, the driver dozed off while driving and hit two light standards along with another pole. The SUV eventually stopped on a front lawn.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
It’s unclear if any charges will be filed against the driver.
The intersection was shut down for several hours while crews worked to fix the damaged traffic lights. In an update shortly after 2 p. m., authorities confirmed that the area has now reopened.
