For the primary time, London is honouring its veterans with a number of banners surrounding Victoria Park and London Metropolis Corridor.
Some depict photographs of heroes who by no means made it house. Others show the faces of the fortunate ones who did.
In life, some, together with Tom Hennessy, had been featured on London.
At 100, the wartime spitfire pilot walked 100 miles round Victoria Park to boost funds for youthful veterans in want.
Now his picture sits throughout the road leaving his spouse, Joyce, overwhelmed.
“He is again,” she stated with emotion trying up at her late husband’s banner. “I’m thrilled and I’m honoured.”
London Branches of the Royal Canadian Legion are behind the memorial banner mission. Thirty-three will stay on show via Remembrance Day.

“We had been impressed by a variety of the cities round London that had carried out it within the final couple of years. And I assumed this was a powerful solution to bear in mind our veterans,” stated Randy Warden, who chairs London’s Remembrance Day Committee.
The variety of veterans honoured is predicted to develop within the coming years. Londoners can submit a request to have a picture of a veteran displayed in 2025 right here.
Warden is hopeful a powerful response will create a robust sight resulting in the cenotaph, “So subsequent yr the target is to develop that and hopefully line the parade route, for the Remembrance Day parade.”

By putting the banners two months forward of Remembrance Day, Joyce is assured Londoners will pause to be taught extra about those that fought for our freedom.
