TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2022 /CNW/ – The Canada-based grocery delivery service, Buggy, is excited to announce the opening of its new store in downtown London, Ontario. This new venture aims to provide faster and more affordable grocery delivery without any product substitutions. By setting up their own dark stores (referred to as “Buggy Stores” in their app), they can buy products at wholesale prices. Their full-time couriers use electric bikes to deliver orders within as little as 15 minutes since they aren’t dependent on gig workers who have to drive to large stores, find parking, shop around, and then schedule a delivery. Additionally, their app will always show customers exactly what’s available on the shelves at that moment in the nearest Buggy store so there are never any substitutions.
“As a University of Western alumni who lived in London for 4 years, I am so pleased that we are able to launch this new service model here. Three of the core Buggy management team also went to the University of Western and we all remember the feeling of how hard it was to access essentials, especially living on campus or if you didn’t have a car. Plus, we just never had time for it! This is the future of retail in general, and I know the tech savvy student population will be early adopters – hence why we chose London for one of our first launch locations,” said Nicole Verkindt, CEO of Buggy. “I have been blown away by how much better of a business model this is than what’s currently out there- typical third party apps markup in-store prices, send gig workers into large stores, never know what exactly is in-store at that time and take forever to deliver,” she elaborated.
Buggy is an app designed for “groceries and essentials” that allows online ordering from their dark stores (i. e., micro warehouses not accessible from the street). The company manages its inventory stored in these small warehouses located throughout densely populated cities across Canada. They source goods wholesale and sell them at retail prices which makes shopping with Buggy more affordable compared to other options. With a dedicated team for deliveries ensuring customers get their orders within 15 minutes, the Buggy app features live inventory updates from the closest store so you always receive what you need quickly.
