Loads of chatter in Queen’s Park immediately regarding relations between Canada and the US – from border safety to preventing tariffs with extra tariffs.
Premier Doug Ford has acknowledged that border safety is a precedence for the province, discussing one large funding he needs to make for native regulation enforcement in Windsor: a helicopter.
This comes about 5 months after the province introduced it will spend $134 million to purchase 5 new helicopters to be used within the Better Toronto Space and Ottawa. Now, it appears extra could also be bought, with one earmarked for Windsor police.
“I did ask our solicitor common yesterday to exit and begin procurement for our Southwestern border,” stated Ford. “Between Hamilton and Niagara, they’ll get a helicopter, and for Windsor and the police down there, they are going to need a helicopter as well.”

Canada and the US have the world’s longest undefended international border, with a large share of those crossings happening in Windsor.
Mayor Drew Dilkens referred to the border as a series of “fortified gates with no fence.” He stated the group would profit from strengthened safety on the marine entrance.
Whereas the Premier stated the helicopter can be for police, Dilkens believes it will profit border officers just like the RCMP and CBSA.
“I believe we want extra assist… we might recognize extra assist. Premier, I recognize what you’re speaking about with air assist as a result of it’s a big area, and also you want that kind of funding, that kind of know-how within the air to assist assist the border aspect,” stated Dilkens.
