A man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a house explosion in southern Ontario on Wednesday, according to officials.
The incident took place in London at a property located in the 100-block of Base Line Road West.
London police reported that at about 1 p. m., both officers and the London Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
The London Fire Department indicated that the house was completely destroyed.
Firefighters mentioned that the home was unoccupied.
However, a man was found at the site and paramedics transported him to the hospital with critical injuries, police stated.
No other injuries have been reported so far.
Authorities noted on Wednesday that the cause of the explosion “remains undetermined.”
“Members of the London Police Service and investigators from the London Fire Department remain on scene. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted, and the investigation is in its early stages,” officers said.
Fire crews collaborated with utility companies after the incident. Gas and electricity services to the residence were cut off.
Base Line Road West was shut down in that area following the explosion.
