London seek suspect in alleged hate-motivated attack

Police are asking for the general public’s assist figuring out a suspect in relation to an alleged hate-motivated assault on a Muslim household in a downtown London park.

London police say a person was together with his household in a downtown park close to King and Thames streets on Oct. 26, final Saturday, when an unknown man approached them, made “derogatory comments” to the person and assaulted him.

Investigators on Thursday printed a picture of a suspect – a white man dressed all in black, together with a black toque.

The person who was attacked sustained minor accidents and didn’t require medical consideration, police say.

Police say the incident “has been determined to be hate-motivated” however didn’t present any particulars about why the person was focused. The investigation has been reassigned to the pressure’s hate crime officer, police stated.

The Nationwide Council of Canadian Muslims stated in a publish on social media that the household focused was Muslim.

“We are deeply horrified and saddened to learn of this,” officers with the group stated. “Over the last year, we have seen more and more Muslim families being targeted in hateful attacks in London.”

London Mayor Josh Morgan condemned the incident in an announcement on social media.

“Islamophobia has absolutely no home in London or anywhere else. We must continue to condemn these incidents, and work to ensure everyone feels safe in our city,” he stated.

Police say that the suspect remained within the space for about 20 minutes after the assault earlier than leaving the park on an e-bike. The suspect is described as a white man, roughly 40 years previous who was sporting a black toque, black jacket, darkish denims and light-coloured sneakers.

He was using a blue e-bike, police stated.
