The woman charged with manslaughter in the 2021 death of her mother told police they were “strangling each other full-throttle,” the jury heard Friday because the defence started presenting its case.

In testimony from London police Det. Blair Gould, the ultimate witness for the Crown, on Friday, the jury heard Barbara Cabala advised police in regards to the chaotic, deadly altercation at her mom’s Wilkins Avenue townhome on July 7, 2021.

“I’m not going to lie about that, we were fighting with each other,” Cabala advised police in an early morning interview on July 8, 2021, after she was launched from hospital. 

Cabala stated close to the tip of the interview they have been “strangling each other full-throttle” and “pushing each other’s faces,” making gestures of the actions to Gould.  

“That’s why I’m sore in every part of my body,” Cabala stated in her police interview.    

“I was trying to defend myself. . . . My hands are ripped up because I was trying to stop her,” Cabala advised police, including she was “grabbing things out of her (mother’s) hand that she was smashing me with.”   

Cabala has pleaded not responsible to manslaughter within the July 2021 dying of her mom, Elzbieta Cabala, 59.   

Throughout cross-examination of Gould by defence lawyer Geoff Snow, Gould admitted he didn’t ask Cabala followup questions within the interview after her remark that she and her mom have been strangling one another. 

Gould admitted on the time of the police interview officers believed the 59-year-old’s explanation for dying was blunt power trauma to the pinnacle. Throughout cross-examination, he admitted a number of inquiries to Cabala stemmed from that assumption.

The jury already has heard Cabala’s mom died from exterior neck compression and that the stress exerted on the 59-year-old’s larynx was sufficient to fracture her airway.

The girl was Barbara Cabala. Lundy testified he was directed to the rear of the house the place London police have been performing chest compressions on Cabala’s mom, who was with out very important indicators.

In his opening assertion, Snow advised the jury Cabala can be testifying in her personal defence. The trial resumes Monday.
