Five people lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident near London, Ont., on Friday night, including four teenagers.

According to provincial police, at about 4:30 p. m., an SUV crashed into a transport truck, which then collided with another SUV at the intersection of Thorndale Road and Cobble Hills Road, located 22 km outside of London.

Two girls aged 17 and one girl aged 16 were declared dead at the scene. A 33-year-old man was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but was later pronounced dead there. Another 16-year-old girl was airlifted by Ornge ambulance to a trauma center where she also passed away. All five individuals were inside the first SUV that got hit.

The driver and passenger in the second SUV along with the transport truck driver sustained minor injuries.

The Bluewater District School Board issued a statement revealing that all four girls and the staff member who died were associated with Walkerton District Community School, roughly 150 kilometers northwest of Toronto, returning home from an out-of-town sports event when the incident occurred.

The board described this loss as “devastating” for both the school community and extended condolences to families coping with “unimaginable grief and sadness through this sudden and heartbreaking loss.”

“As a father, I can’t even imagine what these families are going through, and I just wanted to extend our deepest and sincerest condolences on behalf of the Ontario Provincial Police. You are in our thoughts,” said Sgt. Ed Sanchuk with West Region OPP.

Premier Doug Ford shared similar sentiments in an online post.

“I’m devastated to hear of last night’s tragic accident in Middlesex County, which has now claimed the lives of five people. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones grieving this terrible loss,” he wrote.

Ontario’s education minister expressed his sorrow over losing four students along with a teacher in this crash.

“We are all mourning this terrible loss,” Paul Calandra stated in a social media message.

Investigators are urging anyone who might have been nearby during the crash or has dash camera footage or information to get in touch with them.
