Fireplace hits historic block of Wortley Village with injury estimated at $1M

Two individuals are out of their houses and several other enterprise homeowners might be assessing the injury after an in a single day hearth within the coronary heart of London’s outdated south neighbourhood. 

The London Fireplace Division was known as to the nook of Wortley Street and Bruce Road at 12:30, stated Platoon Chief Brent Shea, a block that has buildings relationship again to 1886.

Firefighters had been met with heavy smoke and flames, and Shea stated it took two aerial rigs and eight crews complete to place out the fireplace. There are a mix of residential and industrial buildings on the nook block.

The London Fireplace Division is reminding residents to examine their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. 

In 2023, one other historic constructing on Wortley Street was destroyed when an arsonist set hearth to an outbuilding leaving a gap on the outstanding north block of the village.

The homeowners of the Black Walnut Cafe are promising to rebuild, with permits presently being ready to begin the work.
