Remembrance Day falls on Tuesday and serves as a time to honor the sacrifices made by Canadians who have served in various capacities, from military conflicts to peacekeeping efforts.
Several ceremonies will take place in the Waterloo region beginning this weekend and continuing into Tuesday.
Early events
Indigenous Veterans Day Saturday at 10:30 a. m. Southern Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre, 745 Coronation Blvd. Cambridge This event will pay tribute to the service, sacrifice, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans across Canada. New Dundee ceremony Saturday at 10:45 a. m., parade starts; ceremony begins at 11 a. m. New Dundee Community Park Elmira ceremony Sunday at 3 p. m. 60 Memorial Ave., Elmira The service will take place at the cenotaph after the parade from the Elmira Branch located at 11 First St. E. Tavistock ceremony Sunday at 1 p. m. 223 Hope Street W., Tavistock Candle Lighting Monday at 5:30 p. m. Wellington County Museum and Archives You can place a candle on each marker at the museum as dusk falls. The candles will stay lit until Wednesday. This Tuesday, there will be three events in Cambridge:Galt: The parade kicks off at 9:45 a. m. from Galt Legion, moving down Water Street towards Main Street bridge, then onto the cenotaph. The ceremony starts at 10 a. m. Preston: The parade starts at 10:30 a. m. from Preston Legion on Margaret Street, traveling down Westminister Drive, King Street, and Argyle Street toward the cenotaph. Hespeler: The ceremony begins at 10:30 a. m. at the cenotaph located at Queen Street E. and Tannery St.Kitchener
Kitchener’s Royal Canadian Legion Fred Gies Branch 50 will host its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday starting at 10:30 a. m., with readings of fallen members beginning earlier at 10 a. m. The parade commences from Ontario Street and makes its way along King Street and Frederick Street to reach the cenotaph on Duke Street. The service there starts around 10:45 a. m.Waterloo
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530 will conduct its annual ceremony on Tuesday with a parade starting at Regina Street S. and Bridgeport Road E. around 10:15 a. m. The actual ceremony takes place at the Waterloo Cenotaph on Regina Street next to city hall starting promptly at 10:30 a. m.
