UW battles $75 million deficit, report calls on enhance in provincial funding for Ontario faculties

Ontario universities and faculties face monetary uncertainty with out the provincial authorities’s assist based on a brand new report from the Council of Ontario Universities (COU).

In keeping with the report, 100,000 highschool college students are prone to not stepping into the post-secondary of their selection, even when they’re absolutely certified, due to the present provincial funding cap on home college students.

COU is looking on the provincial authorities to extend per scholar working grants and carry the funding cap on home college students.

The report provides that Ontario has the bottom per-student funding in Canada, and has skilled 15 years of no per-student funding will increase.

“It is not sustainable to rely on such one-time funds to meet ongoing budget deficits,” stated Goel.

“The freeze on domestic tuition, years of limited government funding, lower international enrolment, inflation, and rising salary costs mean we expect another similar deficit in the next financial year.”

UW has additionally carried out a hiring freeze for college and employees positions as of Monday.
