Officers from the Cambridge detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are looking into a reported shooting that took place on Highway 401, just west of Milton, which is thought to be related to road rage.
At around 3 a. m. on Monday, OPP announced that the westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for a police investigation, stretching from Guelph Line in Milton to Highway 6 South near Morriston.
In an update shortly before 6 a. m., authorities stated that two vehicles were involved in the shooting incident that occurred around 1:30 or 1:40 a. m.
The vehicle suspected in the incident is described as a dark sedan. The victim’s vehicle, identified as a Red Hyundai, was found with bullet holes on its driver’s side.
There were two people inside the targeted vehicle when the shooting happened, but thankfully no injuries have been reported.
If anyone witnessed what took place, they are encouraged to contact Cambridge OPP at 519-654-0150. Investigators are also gathering dash camera footage.
The closure of those westbound lanes has now been lifted.
