Local Remembrance Day Events and Closures in Waterloo Region

Local Remembrance Day Events and Closures in Waterloo Region

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Remembrance Day ceremonies and parades will take place throughout Waterloo Region.

In Kitchener, The Royal Canadian Legion Fred Gies Branch 50 is organizing a parade along King Street from Ontario Street to Frederick Street, concluding at the Duke Street cenotaph. The service will officially begin at 10:45 a. m.

Additionally, there will be an 11 a. m. Remembrance Day ceremony at the Veteran’s Green Interpretive Area, located in the St. Mary’s Heritage Conservation District.

In Waterloo, the local ceremony at the Waterloo cenotaph near City Hall will start at 10:30 a. m., following a parade that begins at Bridgeport Road East and Regina Street North.

Meanwhile, in Cambridge, the Galt, Preston, and Hespeler Legions are hosting parades and ceremonies with road closures set from 9 a. m. to 12:30 p. m.

There are also some facility closures to note for Remembrance Day.

What’s closed:

Most government and administrative offices Region of Waterloo museums In Kitchener, while many community centers and the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium remain open, Kitchener City Hall Service Centre, Rockway Centre, and Bridgeport Community Centre will be closed for the day. LCBO and Beer Store locations will be shut in the morning but open by noon. Canada Post won’t be delivering or picking up mail. All major banks will close their doors for in-person services; however, ATMs will still operate.

What’s open:

Libraries Warming spaces located at 150 Main St. in Cambridge and 150 Frederick St. in Kitchener The Region of Waterloo International Airport Grand River Transit will run on its regular schedule but pause at 11 a. m. to honor Remembrance Day. Some bus and ION routes may be detoured due to local ceremonies throughout the morning. Garbage, green bin, and yard waste collection schedules won’t be affected.

12:00 AM : From 9 a. m. – 1 p. m., there won’t be any ION service between Grand River Hospital Station and Mill Station because of Remembrance Day ceremonies. Shuttle buses will replace trains every 15 minutes. Detours are o… (see https://t. co/j FOb WR7a N9 for details)
