The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is investigating reports of gunshots fired in a Cambridge neighbourhood.

Police were told that a home on Munch Avenue, near Sekura Street, was damaged around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

“It is accurate to say that multiple shots were fired into the residence. And as part of the investigation, we did determine that at least two other residences also received damage consistent with gunshots,” Cherri Greeno, WRPS director of corporate affairs, told .

Greeno said shots were fired into the front of a home and the rear of nearby residences.

“At this point, we do not know if this was targeted or if it was random,” she added.

Officers are expected to be in the area of Munch Avenue, between Hilldale Crescent and Harrison Drive, for most of the day.

“No arrests have been made at this time. We are in the area and will be conducting a canvass of the area, speaking to residents and anyone with information, we’re asking them to provide that to us, as well as anyone with video surveillance,” Greeno said.

Several evidence markers dotted the street on Wednesday and bullet casings were scattered across the ground.

One neighbour, who only wanted to be identified as Ahmad, said he thought someone was breaking into a car.

“I walked in from work and about half an hour after I came in, at 2:30 a.m. in the morning, you hear a loud noise outside.”

Ahmad said he looked through footage from his home security system and heard what sounded like 11 shots.

“I have three kids. Honestly, the safety of my children is the biggest thing,” he explained.

A suspect description is not available at this time.

The shooting happened approximately 500 metres away from the WRPS South Division police station.

Police are encouraging anyone with information or video surveillance to call 519-570-9777, extension 6370.

Previous incident

The neighbourhood is no stranger to the sounds of gunfire.

Waterloo Regional Police were called to a home on Sekura Street on Jan. 5

after several shots were fired into a home.

Investigators said at least 11 shots were also fired in that case.

Bullet holes riddled the homes, front door and adjoining window.

Police made at least two arrests as part of the investigation.

A 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, both from Kitchener, were charged with various firearms offences.
