One man has died following a shooting in the Country Hills area of Kitchener, according to regional police.

Officers were sent to the vicinity of Century Hill and Country Hill drives at around 10 p. m. on Monday after getting several reports of gunfire.

As per WRPS, officers found a 32-year-old man from Kitchener with several gunshot wounds. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities believe that the shooting was likely intentional.

“What we can say at this point is that we do believe that there are connections to organized crime in this investigation,” Melissa Quarrie, public information officer with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, stated. “We do encourage anyone with information to contact police.”

Century Hill Drive was shut down between Old Country Drive and Bleams Road for the ongoing investigation.

Images from the scene show a white SUV crashed into a tree in front of one of the homes nearby, covered with a reflective tarp over the driver’s side door.

Police have confirmed to 570 News Radio that the victim was shot while inside his vehicle.

On December 1, 2025, at approximately 10 p. m., officers responded to multiple reports of a shooting in the area of Century Hill Drive and Country Hill Drive in Kitchener.

Shaundra Gardiner resides in the area and expresses that this latest event makes her feel even less secure in her neighborhood.

“There’s a lot of children, and I do worry about the safety of myself and the people around here. There is an increase of, I would say, violence around our area and police presence. I hope this can change, and we can be safe.”

WRPS Chief Mark Crowell appeared on The Mike Farwell Show discussing how efforts to reduce crime are showing good results but emphasizes that statistics don’t matter when it happens close to home.

“Up until recently, we were driving down gun violence, break-ins and robberies; those are our top three offences of concern by about 20 percent compared to last year. But the stats go out the window when you just think about one individual, one family, one neighbourhood impacted and they’re forever changed.”

Crowell shared some statistics from 2025. He noted there have been 17 shootings in Waterloo Region this year along with four homicides. The region typically sees an average of five homicides and around 21 shooting incidents annually over recent years.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service Major Crime Unit has taken charge of this case and is urging any witnesses to come forward so they can identify those responsible.
