When they say “foul play is suspected,” it’s a way of breaking devastating news in a careful manner.

That phrase goes hand in hand with another: “Hoping for the best but fearing the worst.”

And so it goes for Wilfrid Laurier University social work student Eli Wood.

Cops believe this young man from Nova Scotia was targeted. They won’t disclose why or what led them to this conclusion. They’re being very guarded about information.

The minimal facts are disturbing enough by themselves.

On Oct.19 , around 6 a. m., Kitchener emergency services responded to a fire at a three-unit residence located at 25 Major St. The back unit where Eli Wood lived was completely consumed by flames.

BLAZE HAS BEEN DEEMED ARSON

Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze; however, when they searched through what remained of Eli’s apartment there was no trace of him. He has been unaccounted for ever since.opening envelope

A police investigation commenced shortly after when they determined that this fire was classified as arson. As a result, Eli Wood-whose mom affectionately called him “Geeky”-was now officially considered missing. Investigators felt there had to be more than just coincidence here or misunderstanding involved.

“Investigators believe there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the disappearance and that this is a targeted incident,” police told in October.</

Now police suspect foul play may be connected to Eli Wood’s disappearance. So far, both incidents-the fire and his disappearance-are still under investigation.

A Frantic Mom Reaches Out For Help

Eli’s worried mother has turned to social media asking anyone who might have information about her son’s whereabouts come forward. Again, whether any tips have come in is unclear as police haven’t shared much information publicly about this case. They’ve confirmed it’s intentional arson linked directly targeting someone but haven’t elaborated if these distressing events could indicate something like hate crime either. ‘Foul Play Is Suspected’
