Constantin Vasilescu paid round $40,000 to have the wall rebuilt after the town filed two minimal requirements orders in 2021 and 2022.

Now that the work is full, there’s a brand new complication.

A current sidewalk proposal would imply he’d have to alter a piece of the newly rebuilt wall.

“It is senseless, actually, to place a sidewalk,” argues Vasilescu.

The Metropolis of Cambridge informed CTV Information that stretch of Edward Road was recognized as a precedence space for a possible sidewalk and analysis has begun to find out if the transfer is important.

“We’re not asking to have [the retaining wall] eliminated or torn down,” mentioned Alana Russell with the Metropolis of Cambridge. “What it does is it impedes on the walkway the place the sidewalk would probably go. That portion must be adjusted.”

Vasilescu mentioned he’s annoyed as a result of the town informed him the wall met all required dimensions when it was being constructed.

“I had the bylaw inspector inspecting the wall on the finish of the mission and he mentioned there was no concern,” Vasilescu defined.

The town hosted a public assembly for residents to debate the sidewalk proposal on Wednesday and response gave the impression to be cut up. Among the space residents who spoke with CTV New supported the concept whereas others had been in opposition to it. Although there’s curiosity within the walkway, the town mentioned it doesn’t imply the mission will get the inexperienced mild.

“I might say it’s too quickly to leap to any conclusions as to an final result, and even whether or not or not a sidewalk could be carried out in that location,” Russell mentioned. “Actually the aim of public session is to determine points which will come ahead.”

Residents can nonetheless give their enter on the sidewalk proposal.

Vasilescu doesn’t know the way a lot it should price to take away a portion of his retaining wall, however mentioned he’s prepared to combat if the town needs him to foot the invoice.
