After two days filled with snow and freezing rain, Utilities Kingston crews arrived on Ontario Street while temperatures were just below freezing. The break occurred between Gore and Lower Union Streets, according to Utilities Kingston. They mentioned that they are currently looking into what caused the water main break just before noon.

“Due to the size of the water main, a significant amount of water reached the roadway,” said Utilities Kingston, adding that traffic has been restricted at:

This incident led to a temporary water outage for residents nearby, according to Utilities Kingston. They expect service “to be restored overnight.”

Utilities Kingston stated that updates about the outage will be available on their map found on their website.

“Some nearby areas may notice discoloured tap water as changes in flow can stir up sediment (usually iron deposits in metal pipes) within the system,” noted the utilities company.

“The water remains safe to use.”

Residents living even as far away as north of Princess Street at Division Street reported seeing murky brown water coming from their faucets.

The company suggested checking their website for information regarding discoloured water and possible solutions.

“Turn on the cold-water tap closest to your water meter and let it run until the water turns clear,” advises Utilities Kingston on their site.

The utilities company encouraged residents to keep an eye on their website for further updates regarding this situation.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while our crews work to complete the repair safely and as quickly as possible,” they stated.
