The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed around 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, after what appears to have been a fiery collision between two tractor trailers.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the highway was closed at County Road 6 in Odessa as the collision occurred near Gardiners Road in Kingston. The westbound lanes were reported as slow as some emergency vehicles were stationed in those lanes as well.
Minor injuries were reported, but no one was transported to hospital, Frontenac OPP detailed. Traffic is asked to detour along the eastbound Emergency Detour Route (EDR). No charges have been laid at this time.
“Traffic being rerouted to the EDR at Odessa. Only minor injuries reported but the road is closed for the clean-up,” police shared on social media.
“Plan accordingly if you are heading east toward Kingston this morning.”
The OPP has since updated their original social media post, stating that the westbound lanes of Highway 401 were reopened around 10:20 a.m. but eastbound lanes remain closed at Odessa for continued cleanup.
Update (Friday, Jan. 31, 2025):
As of 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, both the westbound and eastbound lanes of Highway 401 are reopened to traffic following the incident above.
“Drive safely,” the OPP East Region said in an update on social media.
