Only the school bus services in Ottawa decided to operate on Monday following a snowy night.

Ottawa Student Transportation (OSTA) and the Consortium de transport scolaire d’Ottawa (CTSO) are the two agencies managing buses. All other services in eastern Ontario have chosen not to run their buses.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, along with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, have closed schools for Monday.

The Limestone District School Board has kept open just four schools: the North Addington Education Centre, Granite Ridge Education Centre, Land O’Lakes Public School, and Clarendon Central Public School.

Most other schools are still operating. Be sure to check with your school or board for details about what happens when buses aren’t running, especially concerning high school exams.

The Renfrew County and Upper Canada public boards have postponed all exams planned for Monday until Tuesday, as an example.

Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College have canceled all in-person activities on Monday morning, stating that instructors will inform students if classes will continue online or be canceled altogether.

Buses are functioning normally in western Quebec.

In Kingston and nearby areas, school buses have been canceled six out of the last eight school days. The weather station at CFB Trenton recorded approximately 95 cm of snow since January 15th, with 43 cm falling during this storm as of 10 a. m.

Environment Canada reported that Belleville received a total of 35 cm of snow, Ottawa got 13 cm, and Kingston had 10 cm by 10 a. m. Monday.

All local weather alerts were lifted by 10:30 a. m.

Parking and Travel Updates

Via Rail announced it had to cancel twelve routes along its corridor between Quebec City and Windsor on Monday morning.

The Ottawa International Airport Authority noted there were delays in the morning due to snow conditions.

Ottawa experiences snowy Monday morning commute

CBC’s Sannah Choi reports on the road conditions during Monday morning that led to fifty collisions across eastern Ontario needing assistance from Ontario Provincial Police.

KIngston, Belleville, and Quinte West each declared significant weather events due to challenges keeping up with snow-clearing standards.

KIngston has extended its Artillery Park Aquatics Centre warming center until Thursday morning.

An overnight parking ban is in place in Gatineau from midnight until 6 a. m. Tuesday.

Please check with your local municipality for any changes caused by the weather conditions there.
