A residential fire on Florida Road, just northeast of Wilton, resulted in extensive damages and, sadly, the loss of a pet.
Kingston Fire & Rescue crews responded to the address on Florida Road twice on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. At approximately 2:20 p.m., crews from multiple fire stations in Kingston headed north to the address.
“On arrival, heavy smoke and flames were present,” the local fire department told Kingstonist in an email.
As such, firefighters entered the home and quickly extinguished most of the fire, according to Kingston Fire & Rescue. Crews then set up ladders on the exterior of the home “as the fire had spread to the attic area.”
With the fire fully extinguished, Fire Prevention officials were called in to determine the cause of the fire.
“Due to the structural integrity of the home, fire inspectors were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire,” Kingston Fire & Rescue said.
“Crews tried to resuscitate a dog, but unfortunately, the dog succumbed to its injuries.”
Kingston fire crews remained on scene at the Florida Road residence for more than three hours.
Then, approximately two-and-a-half hours after firefighters had left the residence, Kingston Fire & Rescue was once again dispatched to the address at approximately 8:28 p.m. Once again, smoke and flames were present, and firefighters “quickly extinguished the fire and hot spots,” the fire department said.
Kingston Fire & Rescue crews spent just over three hours at the address for the second call, bringing the total time firefighters were on scene to over six hours.
Thankfully, the fire department reported that no injuries were sustained in the fire beyond the loss of the pet dog. Kingston Fire and Rescue said the cost of the damages incurred in the fire is estimated at $350,000.
It is unclear why Kingston Fire & Rescue responded to this incident, as Florida Road is either in South Frontenac or Lennox and Addington County. Kingstonist has inquired with the local fire department as to why their crews attended this incident. This article will be updated if/when more information becomes available.
