An area waste administration facility was evacuated on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, after workers positioned what they thought was a grenade.
In response to a launch from Kingston Police, at roughly 1 p.m., workers of the power had been sorting gadgets in a scrap metallic disposal container after they made the invention.
“Police were contacted and it was determined that the item was in fact a live grenade with the pin still intact. The facility was evacuated and the OPP Explosive Devices Unit attended and disposed of the grenade,” Kingston Police detailed.
In response to police, the circumstances surrounding the grenade and the way it ended up in a waste disposal container are unknown.
Kingstonist requested police for extra data on whereabouts within the metropolis this occurred, in addition to whether or not any communication with CFB Kingston has occurred, given the character of the explosive system. In response to these inquiries, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, stated that the waste administration facility the place the merchandise was positioned is within the space of Dalton Avenue and St. Remy Place.
“I believe it was quite old,” Colangeli advised Kingstonist in an electronic mail, noting that he didn’t have a photograph of the grenade.
