Dr. Elizabeth Theresa Solomon, referred to as Bette by most, handed away peacefully on the age of 83 on November sixteenth, 2024, on the Kingston Basic Hospital (KGH), surrounded by her loving life companion Jill Irwin, her two daughters Lisa and Dyan Solomon, and Sandra Soto, Dyan’s life companion. She left this earth understanding she was deeply cherished, after a ten-year journey residing with dementia. Up till the tip Bette maintained her sweetness, mischievous humour, gratitude, spirit and normal love of life. We’re so grateful understanding that her previous few years have been joyful and that she felt so cherished.
After finishing her Ph.D (whereas elevating two daughters on her personal) Bette labored as a Scientific Psychologist at Kingston Psychiatric Hospital and later at KGH the place she served as Head of the Psychology Division. As adjunct school within the Psychology Division at Queen’s College, she was a a lot sought-after scientific supervisor and mentor of graduate college students till she retired in 2005, spending her winters in San Miguel, Mexico, a spot she adored. She was a board member at Hospice Kingston, a volunteer at a number of group organizations and performed an essential function in establishing the Ladies’s Research program at Queen’s. Bette was a passionate feminist, an outspoken activist and inspirational mentor to many. She raised two very unbiased, strong-minded daughters. Bette touched many individuals’s lives: mates, household, colleagues, and sufferers alike. She was a superb pressure, not simply forgotten.
Bette is lovingly remembered by her life companion Jill Irwin, her two daughters Lisa Solomon and Dyan Solomon (Sandra Soto), her sister Judy Graham, brother Earl Echlin, niece Virginia Potter (Brian) in addition to her beloved pup Ollie.
The household wish to thank all those that offered such compassionate care each at residence and later on the Cataraqui Heights Retirement Residence. As effectively, we wish to thank the docs, nurses and workers within the Emergency Room and on Connell 9 at KGH who helped us gently navigate the ultimate days of Bette’s lovely life with such grace.
A Celebration of Life for Bette Solomon will probably be held Friday, December 6 at 2 pm at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, 390 King St. West, Kington, Ontario. Reception to comply with after the service till 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations could also be made to the Ban Righ Centre at Queen’s College or Horizons of Friendship, organizations that uplift and empower girls of their communities.
