Just after 8:20 p. m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, Loyalist Township Fire and Emergency Services, the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and L&A Paramedics responded to the fire, which broke out at a house on Millhaven Road. While the OPP did not say precisely where the fire occurred in a press release issued the following morning, police did say the house is on Millhaven Road near Caton Road, south of Odessa.
“The home was fully engulfed in flames,” L&A OPP said in the release.
“One person remains unaccounted for.”
L&A firefighters remained on scene overnight, the OPP said. Mutual aid was also provided from neighbouring fire departments, and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) was called in and “is investigating the cause of the blaze,” according to the OPP.
The OFM typically investigates fires that are suspicious in nature, those involving fatalities, critical injuries, or explosions, as well as fires that involve substantial loss ($500,000+) or vulnerable occupants (such as fires occurring in long-term care homes).
Kingstonist has inquired with Loyalist Fire and Emergency Services as to whether any individuals were home at the time of the fire, whether any injuries were reported or rescue operations occurred, where the fire broke out, the estimated cost of damages, and for any other information the fire department is able to share. Due to the ongoing investigation by the OFM, Loyalist Fire was not able to share many details, but the township said that mutual aid in battling the blaze was provided by fire departments from the City of Kingston, Stone Mills Township, Greater Napanee Town and South Frontenac Township.
Firefighters and representatives from OFM remained on site as of 11:55 a. m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026.
Police did not release any details about who is still unaccounted for.
