Officers from the Sharbot Lake detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stay within the space of Mountain Grove Street on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, after receiving a report of a suspicious male strolling alongside the highway this morning.
“As a result of that report, safety measures have been put in place at Land O’Lakes Elementary School in Mountain Grove,” OPP mentioned in an advisory on the incident. “OPP has determined that no risk to public safety exists at this time. An increased number of officers remain in the area.”
The report concerned an alleged sighting of a male holding a possible weapon, mentioned OPP. No different particulars on the suspect or the character of the weapon have been launched at the moment.
On account of the report, a lockdown of the college was initiated by OPP.
“Patrol officers responded quickly and did not locate anyone in the area with a weapon,” OPP mentioned. The lockdown was lifted after roughly 20 minutes and whereas police remained within the space early on Friday afternoon, OPP mentioned they don’t consider there’s any danger to public security at the moment.

“Today at approximately 11:00 a.m., Land O’ Lakes Public School was placed into a Lockdown as a precautionary measure as per OPP direction. At approximately 11:20 a.m., the OPP transitioned the Lockdown to a Hold and Secure. At approximately 11:40 a.m. the OPP lifted the Hold & Secure. Police have indicated that there is no threat to students or staff, however students will be kept inside today during lunch hour and recess out of an abundance of caution.”
