Provincial police are looking into the death of a Grade 8 student who experienced a “medical emergency” at a Bath, Ont., school earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to Bath Public School just outside Kingston on March 9 and took the student to hospital, according to a statement from the Limestone District School Board (LDSB) released on Friday afternoon.

“Sadly, on March 15, 2026, the student died in hospital,” it said.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy, which resulted in the death of a child and student from our community. Our hearts are with the student’s family, loved ones, classmates, and staff as they face this profound loss.”

The board mentioned it was focused on “providing care, stability, and support during this incredibly difficult time.”

Counselling and mental health services are available for anyone affected by what happened, added the LDSB.

Support Offered by School Board

A profile of Bath Public School on the board’s website states it serves more than 275 students from kindergarten to Grade 8.

Ontario Provincial Police officers were called to the school on March 9 for a “medical emergency,” said Sgt. Erin Cranton.

“It is now a death investigation involving a child,” she wrote in an email. “No further details will be released at this time.”

The LDSB also stated it would not be sharing more details and noted that it was cooperating with police.

The board encouraged anyone needing support to contact the school or access any of the following mental health resources:
